Service Bulletin: How to Install Z-500-1056 Relay Kit

A Step-by-Step Guide to Installing FWE’s Relay Update Kit (Z-500-1056). This simple, easy-to-install kit stabilizes power flow and ensures consistent operation, keeping your unit running smoothly in demanding kitchen environments.

Priority Service Notes:

1. Make sure to mount the relay to the bottom of the unit.
2. Make sure all connections are tight and secure.
3. Make sure all screws are tight on the terminal block.
4. Make sure to route the wires safely around the blower motor and fan.

Tools Used in this Tutorial

• Relay Retrofit Kit (FWE Part # Z-500-1056)
• Driver Drill with #2 Phillips Bit
• 1/4″ Nut Driver

Detailed Installation Instructions

1. Unplug unit and remove from service.
2. Open packaging and locate relay assembly with included wiring harness and wiring diagram.
3. Remove the side panel off the unit and locate terminal block and elements.
4. Using wiring diagram to follow along, proceed with the following
   1. Remove existing white wire (left side) from element terminal and remove from terminal block. Discard wire.
   2. Install new wire from terminal block to one side of relay coil (wire #33 on diagram).
   3. Remove existing red wire from element terminal (right side) and install on other side of relay coil (wire #4 on diagram).
   4. Install black wire (wire #30) on terminal block position #2 where incoming line power from cord is connected.
   5. Install white wire (wire #34) on terminal block position #4 where incoming neutral line from cord is connected.
   6. Install red wire (wire #31) onto right side element terminal.
   7. Install white wire (wire #32) onto left side element terminal.
5. Route wiring so that it does not interfere with rear fan blade on motor.
6. Mount relay to the bottom of compartment with choice of fastener (zip screws recommended).
7. Restore power and test unit for operationality.
8. Reinstall side panel and return unit to service.
